I really liked this book and recommend it totally. The author had me from the start. Her descriptions and detail were exceptionally done. A love story with a twist as I would never had thought it would end the way it did. I am hoping there is another book in the works as I would read it. Though the ending was a bit sad, it was also unpredictable, which I like.

I enjoy good stories about the sacrifices immigrants made when they came to this country to make better lives for themselves and their families. The weather and living conditions can be brutal.
This was an incredible book! Took it on vacation & could not put it down!! I kept visualizing it as a Hallmark Movie!! Seriously!! Very well written! I was so impressed, I couldn't believe this was Brenda Sorrels 1st novel!! She has a way of bringing you into each character! Well done!!
I really enjoyed this novel! The author is a great storyteller and descriptive writer.
I will be looking for her next book to come out. Can't wait!
The Bachelor Farmers is a family tale, a history lesson and a love story wrapped around easy to read prose. I sat in the family house in the countryside of Minnesota, warmed myself by the fire, braved the bitter weather, browsed through a frontier store and soaked in the beauty of the land. Sorrels paints a beautiful tale with words that seamlessly carry the reader through the story. As I read through The Bachelor Farmers, I kept thinking to myself that this writer knows how to use words and descriptions to bring the reader into the story so that prose and story flow harmoniously together.
The Bachelor Farmers is a good story, well told. My interest was in the Norwegian immigrant experience and folklore, but I got so much more than that, including some insight into the Ojibwa people. Bravo, Brenda.
Just finished reading this wonderful novel about the lives and loves of The Bachelor Farmers. It is a very well-written, engrossing story about their challenges, struggles and victories, and the problems that they faced. The vivid, detailed descriptions give deep images for the reader and a very good feel for the times in which they lived. I would definitely recommend this to my friends and family and have, in fact, sent copies as gifts.
This is an excellent read. I didn't want to put the book down!! The stories about all the individuals was very interesting. I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a good story about family ties.
